About

Retreats from Oblivion is the official journal of NoirCon, a biennial conference devoted to noir and its creative expressions. We envision this journal to be an extension of the artistic community built around NoirCon, and hope that the online forum can deepen, enrich, and expand its network. Focusing on newly published work, as well as highlights from past NoirCon catalogs, Retreats from Oblivion aims to be as embracing and surprising as NoirCon: short stories, critical essays (not single-title reviews), poems, photographs, comics, artwork, interviews, songs, and so much more.

Yes, we are open for submissions!

Guidelines: Just show us your best stuff. If it's noir, send it our way. Nothing sexist, racist, hateful, or anything of that repugnant sort. Original works are preferred, but if something is out of print we are glad to give it consideration. Genre hybrids are also welcome (western noir, sci-fi noir, swashbuckler noir). We're not publishing novel-length works on the website, so keep that in mind, but we're not going to place any word-count restrictions at the moment. Please, only one submission at a time. If you want to combine several photographs into a photo essay, that is cool with us. We are currently unable to pay for accepted pieces. Creators retain all rights to their work, however we do ask that if your work is reprinted elsewhere that you credit Retreats from Oblivion as the original place of publication (if the work is not a reprint).

Send submissions and any questions or comments to retreatsfromoblivion@gmail.com.
